Students in Cardiff are leaving windows and doors open in classrooms to maximise natural ventilation. This follows advice from the education department that good air circulation can help stop the spread of COVID-19.
But residents of Cathays say police are failing to clamp down on vandalism, as students share pictures of smashed car windows on Facebook.
uPVC
uPVC is an energy-efficient and durable building material. It is used in many products, including water pipes and double glazed windows. It is also resistant to sunlight and chemicals. It is available in a variety of colors and finishes. uPVC is recyclable and has good insulating properties, making it an excellent choice for windows and doors.
The best thing about UPVC is that it is maintenance-free. It does not swell or fade due to extreme weather conditions and it’s impervious to insects, mold, and fungus. It can be cleaned with a damp cloth or soapy water. UPVC is also incredibly secure, keeping your home safe from intruders and loud noises.
Another advantage of UPVC is that it can reduce your AC power bills by preventing heat loss during the winter and heat gain in summer. Its insulation properties also help keep your home quieter, reducing noise pollution from honking cars and construction sites. UPVC is also highly resistant to fire, and it does not corrode or degrade over time.
Aluminium
With their aluminium frames, our sustainable windows let more natural light into your home while reducing energy bills and increasing comfort. Featuring polyamide thermal breaks they also meet Part L building regulations, protecting your home from excess heat loss and saving you money on energy costs throughout the year.
Aluminium windows are incredibly strong and durable, giving them the ability to support large areas of glass with minimal frame width. This allows you to maximise external views and lets more light into your home while still allowing for excellent levels of home security.
They are also highly sustainable, with a recyclable frame that can be remade into another product with minimal energy use. This means that, unlike uPVC, you won’t have to worry about your new windows ending up in landfill. The aluminium frames are powder coated which gives a high quality finish that doesn’t fade or discolour, meaning they will continue to look fresh for years to come.
Wood
Wood windows offer a wide variety of options to suit all budgets. They can match traditional sliding sash windows or be used in newer properties to create a unique style. They are available in a range of different wood species, including pine and mahogany. Some wood windows are designed with a more durable coating to protect them from the elements and improve their appearance over time.
Unlike PVC-u, which can be scratched and dulled by prolonged exposure to the weather, wooden frames are treated with a special coating that resists chipping, peeling, or staining. They can also be repainted to change their colour if you decide to redecorate your home.
Many people think that double or triple glazed timber windows must have PVC-u frames, but this is not true. Wood Window Alliance members offer a range of wood-framed windows, all of which are double or triple glazed and will keep your property warm and draught-free. They are also energy efficient, with the thermal performance being determined mainly by the glazing specification rather than the frame material.
Composite
A composite window is a combination of multiple materials which creates a stronger product than any one material. The Monmouthshire Window Company offer high quality composite windows from manufacturers such as Endurance and Door Stop that boast the performance of easy-to-maintain uPVC combined with strong insulating timber.
The timber on the interior helps to keep your heating inside so that you can use less energy and therefore reduce your heating bills. This also makes a composite window more environmentally friendly.
The only downside of a composite is that they sit at the higher end of the price spectrum as both timber and aluminium are expensive materials. However, in terms of upfront costs, they are more competitive than uPVC frames and could save you money on your heating bills over the long term. They are available in a variety of colours, styles and opening formats including casement and tilt & turn.windows south wales
