Like a highly-specialized version of Google, these sites let you type in your movie or TV show of choice and will reveal every platform where it is available to stream, rent, buy, etc.
JustWatch is one of the oldest streaming search engines and works as a website or app in browsers or smartphones. It searches all major streaming services and many less-popular ones.
JustWatch
With so many streaming services battling over content, finding the right show or movie can be a daunting task. JustWatch helps make the search a little easier by connecting with many of the top services to examine their libraries and give you the best options in one spot.
The service offers a free option and Pro, a subscription that gives you access to a growing number of features. You can choose to remove titles you’ve marked as seen, filter by production country and rating count, and more.
You can sign up with a Facebook or email address to get started with JustWatch, which is available for both iOS and Android smartphones and web browsers. The website is surprisingly candid about how it makes money, with the company admitting that personal information may be collected for advertising purposes. However, that can be turned off in your account settings.
Reelgood
If you want to see a list of all your shows and movies across multiple streaming films services, Reelgood is the place to go. The site indexes content from Netflix, Hulu, HBO (HBO GO and HBO NOW), Amazon Prime Video and Showtime, with more sources on the way.
You can browse Reelgood’s movie and TV content without creating an account, but you need one if you want to create watchlists or use the mobile app. It’s free to sign up using a Facebook, Google or Apple account.
Reelgood uses data from its five million US users to suggest what to watch next, as well as where it can be found. It also offers a Top 10 list each week and displays the cost of renting or buying each movie, if available. The app also makes it easy to mark titles as “seen” so they don’t get suggested again. It is available on the web, Roku and in iOS apps for iPhone and iPad.
Google is an American technology company specializing in artificial intelligence, online search, computer software, and cloud computing. It is a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc and its headquarters are located in Mountain View, California.
Google recently introduced a new feature to its search engine that will make it easier to find movie and TV show content on various streaming services and media marketplaces. When searching for a movie, Google will now display the platforms that have it available in a carousel at the top of the search results. Users can click on these icons to be taken directly to the service they want to watch it on.
Google is also adding support for livestreams to its search engine and Google Assistant. This will allow users to see when a video is live or when it is set to start. Streaming services can mark up their videos with the new Livestream structured data to enable them to appear in Google’s search and Assistant results.
On TV Tonight
On TV Tonight is a television listings and video aggregator media company that collates content from multiple broadcast channels, cable TV and video streaming providers and allows users to search this content using a single interface. The website was launched in 2014 and offers local content for viewers in the United States, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, France and Italy. Users can personalize their guides to hide channels that are unavailable in their area, bookmark favorites and more. The site also features TV schedules by city. It is available on both desktop computers and mobile devices. Its TV guide features a variety of genres including reality shows, news and more.
