Almost all RVers and van lifers have had a dream about cooling off in the summer without having to plug into shore power or use a generator. We found a unit that makes it a reality, the 12V Dometic RTX2000.
The unit was a bit challenging to install because it wasn’t designed for RVs or vans and the Ford Transit roof cutout is different from a typical roof air conditioner cutout.
Features
New Dometic Replacement Cooling Units have a lot to offer. Not only are they able to work independently from propane or electric power, but they also have an adjustable fan that can be set at a lower speed for quieter operation.
These units are designed to work in harsh marine environments, with aluminum frames, hermetic compressors and stainless steel flat plate evaporators. They’re also backed by a 2-year warranty.
If your current unit has stopped working, it’s time to upgrade to a new one. We can help you find the right one for your needs, and our technicians are more than happy to install it on your next RV or boat trip. And don’t forget to pick up a Fridge Defend, an automatic temperature monitoring device that can protect your fridge from failure or automatically restart it. This will ensure that your food stays fresh and healthy while you’re on the road. It’s a great way to save money in the long run!
Installation
The Dometic Replacement Cooling Units are easy to install. They feature self-sealing valve couplings, paired refrigeration compressors and condensers, and pre-charged refrigerant for a quick and simple installation.
The first step is to remove the refrigerator from the camper ac RV, then disconnect 120VAC (shore power) and 12VDC at the battery bank. This is done so that you can safely work on the refrigeration unit.
Next, you should check to see if the screw holes are aligned properly on both sides of the cooling unit. Then, apply transfer mastic and fasten the refrigerator fins to the cooling unit.
On the old cooling unit, there is a sheet-metal wind baffle and flue tube baffle that needs to be transferred to the new unit. Also, the boiler housing and electric heaters need to be removed from the old unit and installed onto the new one. These items are located on the back of the refrigerator, usually near the burner mount.
Warranty
New Dometic Replacement Cooling Units are backed by one of the strongest warranties in the business. Most products carry a 3 year limited warranty that includes parts, labor and freight coverage.
The company also offers extended service contracts that give you 6 years of parts and labor.
They’re also known for their noiseless absorption appliances that use gas to minimize your dependence on electricity.
Before you start troubleshooting, make sure your RV is level so the fridge can operate as efficiently as possible. Also check the thermostat to see if it’s working properly and whether it uses propane or electric power.
Energy Efficiency
New Dometic Replacement Cooling Units are incredibly energy efficient, consuming less power than many competitors. They’re designed to save you money on fuel costs, engine maintenance and repairs, and they are better for the environment.
The RTX1000 and RTX2000 both feature a powerful compressor that uses only 18A of power for 12 hours in Eco mode. These units also feature a Turbo mode for faster cooling that requires 19A of power.
In order to make the phase out of sodium chromate possible, Dometic needs to find an alternative corrosion inhibitor. Currently, the company is in the process of testing an inhibitor, called inhibitor 7.
